SuperSport United are eager to hang on to 2020/21 Golden Boot winner Bradley Grobler making it clear he won’t be let go for anything less than R6-million.

Grobler revealed last season that former Kaizer Chiefs boss Gavin Hunt had made contact with him but no deal was sealed.

The so-called big three are understandably interested in the proven goalscorer but as the season approaches it grows ever more unlikely that he will leave SuperSport United.

A R6-million price tag may deter both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs but a move to crosstown rivals Mamelodi Sundowns could still happen if the board loosens the purse strings.

Another leftfield option would be the emerging force of Amazulu in Kwazulu-Natal. The club are now backed, not only by financial clout but also the promise of Champions League football.

According to a Soccer Laduma report Usuthu have made contact with Matsatsantsa to discuss a possible deal, but have been put off by the price tag, with indications that the Durban-based outfit feel is a serious stumbling block to any successful negotiations.

SuperSport United are eager to avoid being a club that gets bullied into selling its star performers on the cheap in order to avoid ‘standing in the way of a player’s dreams’.

Grobler will turn 34 during the 2021/22 season, and it looks increasingly likely that he will see out his career at SuperSport United.

The question is, will SuperSport United be able to provide coach Kaitano Tembo with the resources he needs for a push for continental football and silverware.

Tembo has expressed his frustration by budget cuts at the club.

“We want to do better than we did last season. I wish I could go on a signing spree but in reality we have a limited budget and because of our budget cuts we cannot go crazy in the market like the other teams. We will add a few players but I have to focus on what we have. I believe in allowing the young players to play,” said Tembo.

SuperSport United will want to hang on to Grobler and sought-after attacking midfielder Sipho Mbule for all they are worth.
