SuperSport have already clinched at least one signing in Chippa United defender Ronald Pfumbidzai one a pre-contract ahead of the next season. They are also credited with an interest with yet another player who is at Chippa in Ronaldo Maarman. Other players who have been linked with Matsatsantsa happen to be Chiefs duo Khama Billiat and Phathutshedzo Nange

Out of all three players mentioned to be interesting SuperSport, it looks like it is only Nange who seems the most plausible, with the club already indicating that they will not stretch their budget in order to sign some of their targets. That is why they are reportedly realistic about the chances of signing Billiat, even if he does leave Chiefs as a free agent. That is because the club is aware of the exorbitant amount of money he would command.

A similar case is that of Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali. SuperSport are without question, but they are believed to have pulled out of the race to sign him, due to the package that he would demand as well. Now, even more frustration the club have confirmed through their CEO Stan Matthews, that although they wanted to sign Mthethwa, the club had to be realistic that Chiefs and other giants would blow the Pretoria-based club out the park.

SuperSport won’t compete for Mthethwa

“I can’t afford to take that the big hitter Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns on the packages they are on. There are a lot of attractive players coming free but we can’t afford their salary packages. I lost TT because I could not match the kind of numbers Kaizer Chiefs offered him, I had to take that on the chin. I have to take it on the chin around other players too, because as much as we would like to sign Mthethwa from Stellenbosch, I don’t have a cheque that can be that big to get him. One of the big three will get him.” Said Matthews according to Soccer-Laduma

So it seems like Chiefs will be competing with possibly Sundowns for Mthethwa, with Orlando Pirates not been linked with the player like their rivals. Will Stellenbosch cash in on the player?
