SuperSport United receive offer for Maseko from European club

SuperSport United attacking midfielder Thapelo Moseko might just be heading to Europe sooner rather than later.

Thapelo Maseko is a wanted man. According to Mazola Molefe on SABC Sport, the SuperSport United youngster is attracting concrete interest from Westerlo in Belgium.

Maseko destined for Europe

Attacking midfielder Maseko rose through the club’s youth academy and is still only in his second season as a pro. According to Molefe on SABC Sport, Westerlo have tabled two offers to try and speed up any potential deal.

Matsatsantsa had not made this public, but everyone within the club rates him highly to the extent that a sale feels inevitable. Maseko is represented by agent Lance Davids, who was a midfielder of top pedigree for 1860 Munich, Djurgardens, SuperSport, Ajax and Bafana Bafana among others. Davids feels as though Westerlo is the ideal club for his client, given their strong links with South African players in the modern game. Lyle Foster, Elrio van Heerden, Masilo Modubi, Jeffery Ntuka and Boy-Boy Mosia have all represented the Belgian outfit.

Gavin Hunt resigned to losing Maseko

“We believe this was expected because Thapelo has had a phenomenal season under coach Gavin Hunt and was recently called up to the U23 and mentioned by Bafana coach Hugo Broos as well. We can confirm the offer,” said the player’s agent Lance Davids of Football First.

“I think he is ready for the step up and he can follow in the footsteps of SA players who move to Europe at a young age and have done well in the past,” added Davids, himself a former national team midfielder now based in Belgium.

“Westerlo is also an ideal club, they have a history with our players – from Lyle Foster recently, to Elrio van Heerden, Masilo Modubi, Jeffery Ntuka and Boy-Boy Mosia.

“There’s clearly something special if you also consider that Bontle Molefe and Mdu Shabalala went on trial there last year.

“But we do acknowledge the decision rests with his parent club and we hope they can allow him this opportunity, instead of maybe considering any local offers for Thapelo.”

Maseko, still only 20 years of age, has made 20 appearances and scored three goals this term.
