Mamelodi Sundowns are ready to ditch a Bafana Bafana star as they already begin preparations for next season.

30-year-old Thabiso Kutumela has been out on loan with Cape Town City this season. He’s made a solid contribution for the Citizens, with 26 league appearances and three goals. According to Soccer-Laduma, that may not be enough to earn him a return to Sundowns as they aim to either sell him or loan the striker out again. Kutumela earned eight caps for South Africa too, scoring twice in those appearances.

“The Siya crew has been led to believe that one of the players Mamelodi Sundowns has loaned out will not feature in the plans of the technical team next season. One of the players who is unlikely to be part of the Irst team next season is striker Thabiso Kutumela, who struggled for game time before being loaned out to Cape Town City. Unless there are any changes in pre-season, where the player performs well and convinces coaches at the club, indications are that he might leave the club again, with the Citizens considering having him on board again,” wrote the publication.

Mamelodi Sundowns are ready to offer Etiosa Ighodaro in part exchange to land SuperSport defender Kegan Johannes, according to SoccerLaduma. Johannes is a long-term target for Orlando Pirates but the 23-year-old now has even more options. Ironically, there are rumours doing the rounds that Pirates want to sign 22-year-old striker Oghodaro. Johannes can play as a conventional right-back or in the centre of defence so his versatility would be useful to any of the top sides in South Africa. Ighodaro has had a decent season for SuperSport on loan from Sundowns, scoring five times and supplying two assists. That could quite easily smooth the pathway for Johannes to Sundowns.

Nedbank Cup final news

Midfield orchestrator Miguel Timm is a major doubt for the Nedbank Cup final against Sundowns on 1 June after missing the 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy. Key defender Tapelo Xoki will miss the game after being ruled out for the rest of the campaign. The 29-year-old central defender has made 26 appearances in the league and three in the Nedbank Cup. He’s also grabbed three goals in that competition. Xoki suffered a serious ankle injury in training and needs surgery. Meanwhile, Sundowns star Lucas Ribeiro Costa is a major doubt for the match. Pirates and Sundowns meet in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday 1 June.
