Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be ready to let a former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates target!

Chiefs and Pirates were reportedly interested in signing Lebohang Maboe of Sundowns in the past.

Maboe was part of a top Maritzburg United side that survived relegation a couple of years ago. The key players of that squad being himself, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Fortune Makaringe, all scored big moves. Ndlovu and Makaringe heading to Pirates, while Chiefs missed out on all three.

Pirates and Chiefs once interested in Maboe

Since joining Sundowns, however, Maboe has seen his career heavily disrupted by injuries. Because of his quality on the field, the likes of Pirates and Chiefs have always been lurking in the background. It is thought that both teams were hoping to attract him on a free transfer until he decided to extend his deal for the long-term.

Now, according to Soccer-Laduma, Sundowns are finally willing to let Maboe go. This would be on a loan deal, however, which almost rules out both Pirates and Chiefs.

“It’s not like they (Sundowns) want to release him (Maboe). No. They just want to loan him out so that he can get some more game time. The injury he suffered disturbed him and he is doing catch up work most of the time. So a player of his quality needs to be playing regularly and that’s why management together with the technical team have looked at a loan option as a move for him at this point,”

The source also went on to say Sundowns still believe in Maboe and that’s why they won’t be selling him.

Sundowns only looking to loan Maboe

“Sundowns still have a contract with Lebo (Maboe) and since he is still just 29 years old, they still need him but they are giving him the chance to play regularly at another club. But they will look at the conditions and the club which could fit him as well before sending him on loan. But that’s what is in their plans at the moment,” said the source.

Should Maboe leave Sundowns on loan, it won’t be at a rival like Pirates and Chiefs.
