Sundowns are the PSL’s Man City, but who are Kaizer Chiefs?

Man City and Sundowns have obvious similarities. But in a Premier League context, who is the equivalent of PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs?

Sundowns have just sealed their sixth PSL title on the bounce, and their eighth in 10 seasons. Obvious comparisons between them and Premier League juggernauts Man City will be drawn.

So, if Sundowns are the Man City of South Africa, who are Kaizer Chiefs? It must be obvious, surely?

Sundowns vs Cape Town City: Let’s predict how the champions will line up

Kaizer Chiefs are the Man United of South Africa

If you were to take a quick glance over at the Premier League table, you’d find Man United in fifth position. It’s certainly not where they want to be, and they’ll fancy their chances of overtaking Tottenham and claiming fourth at worst. The Red Devils have two games in hand as it stands. Chiefs aren’t where they want to be either, scrambling for second place in the PSL but currently lying in fourth. Both Chiefs and Man United are massive clubs with huge fanbases and a long history of silverware and success.

Sundowns and Man City then dominant forces in recent times

Sundowns have made mincemeat of the field this season. Although Manchester City are being pushed hard by league leaders Arsenal, and Liverpool have taken them to the wire more than once, their financial might makes them obviously comparable to the Brazilians. City have won four of the last five Premier League crowns.

Premier League race getting tasty

Unlike in the PSL, the scramble for glory in the EPL is tight and tense in 2022-23. Arsenal lead the way with 72 points ahead of Man City with 64, although the Citizens have a game in hand. Those sides still have to meet at the Etihad Stadium in what could be a defining day in the race, but there’s plenty of football to be played.
