Orlando Pirates return to PSL action on Wednesday night as they make the trip to the Mbombela Stadium to take on SuperSport United.

The Sea Robbers kicked off their campaign with a satisfying 3-1 home win over Bloemfontein Celtic on the opening Saturday.

Mzwanele Mahase had pulled the visitors level before half time following Augustine Mulenga’s early opening goal.

But second half efforts from Innocent Maela and Gabadinho Mhango ensured a profitable opening to the new season.

Less enjoyable was last weekend’s CAF Champions League preliminary round 1-0 first leg loss to Zambian side Green Eagles.

But boss Milutin Sredojevic reckons his side are on to something despite their packed early schedule, having been pipped to the South African title by Mamelodi Sundowns last season.

The Serbian coach said: “People could speak this or that, we will just say visible trophies are around the corner. Invisible trophies that we’ve succeeded in is that we lifted our criteria and standards of our team.

“Once those criteria and standards are achieved and we have reached the level that we want, in that moment even trophies and other things will come.

“So, instead of thinking about [the trophies], I will repeat that criteria and standards are something we are rushing to catch. We want to be the trophy-material team, which we are not far from.”

Higher standards are also on the agenda for SuperSport, who suffered opening day defeat to Pitso Mosimane’s reigning champions.

The 2-0 loss has left them scratching round at the foot of the early table, albeit with a game in hand on many.

But a Clayton Daniels goal did give them three points over Pirates in this fixture last season at the same venue, sealing a rare defeat for the Buccaneers.

Prediction: Orlando Pirates have a surprisingly poor record against SuperSport. However, the Buccaneers’ impressive showing and United’s woeful performance so far, makes the visitors firm favourites. We’ll go for a tidy 0-2 to Pirates.
