Chiefs have already confirmed the signing of SuperSport United centre back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, while also being thought to have signed Mduduzi Mdantsane and Given Msimango.

Having two centre backs in that list of new signings obviously doesn’t bode well for some of the existing ones at the club. While there is already plenty at Chiefs, it certainly does seem like coach Arthur Zwane sees the bulk of them as  more quantity than quality. Amakhosi have often used the likes Edmilson Dove, Zitha Kwinika and Siyabonga Ngezana as regular centre back options. The likes of Njabulo Ngcobo, Austin Dube and Eric Mathoho were nothing but bit part players for the club during the previous season.

Mathoho has already been offloaded, with Ngcobo and Dube also believed to be making room for the incoming two at Chiefs. But what will be encouraging for all the players is that, it does not look like they’re short of options. Ngcobo, in particular, has featured more times than the other two, albeit sparingly as well. How his career at the club has not taken off remains a great mystery, especially seeing how hard they fought off the advances of Mamelodi Sundowns to sign the then Defender of the Season in his maiden campaign in the topflight at Swallows FC.

Swallows want Ngcobo back

Now speaking to Shakes Rampedi, Swallows have confirmed their interest in resigning Ngcobo from Chiefs through their chairman David Mogashoa says they will be ready to make a move and attempt to re-sign the gifted defender IF Kaizer Chiefs place Ngcobo on their transfer list. Mogashoa and Ngcobo have remained close since the 29-year-old left Amaswaiswai for Amakhosi in 2021.

It is believed that Ngcobo is still to sit down with Chiefs to discuss his future, with the likely outcome being a move away. It is thought that he already has three other options besides Swallows to choose from should he leave Amakhosi.
