Sold-out Soweto derby? PSL finally responds to Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates!

SAFA and the PSL have finally responded to millions of fans calling for the return to full capacity stadiums in South Africa. Will the next Soweto derby be sold-out?

SAFA and the PSL have finally responded to millions of fans calling for the return to full capacity stadiums in South Africa. Will the next Soweto derby be sold-out?

It’s been over two years since fans were allowed to sell out their teams biggest matches.

Over two years since we saw 90 000 Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans fill up Soccer City. So, is this all about to change?

SAFA AND THE PSL FINALLY RESPOND TO CHIEFS AND PIRATES FANS

Well, the short answer is yes and no. After the Springboks confirmed that they will be allowing full capacity crowds for their three-match Test Series with Wales, we can certainly expect other sporting codes to follow suite.

However, well the PSL will be opening more doors and letting in more fans. Their are still several steps that have to be followed before this can happen.

PSL Chief executive officer Matho Madlala gave the public this update:

“This has just been announced and what will follow is we will call an executive meeting where we are going to discuss all the implications before we write to our members. We haven’t done that. We are going to meet and will let our member clubs, sponsors and the public know the way forward.” said Madlala.

The public has been urged to remain cautious and to trust SAFA and the PSL.

“It is a great opportunity to recover the economy. But we still need to be cautious and review our protocols on stadium safety. This is the time for us to review those protocols.” Ngwenya added.

This is a massive opportunity to recover the sports economy and for the DStv Premiership to generate a much better revenue.

“We are back to normal. The sector has been severely affected by the pandemic and it is time to begin the fight for recovery from an economic point of view,” said Dr Thulani Ngwenya, SAFA chief medical officer.

We could soon see Soweto derbies, Tshwane derbies, KZN derbies filled with passionate supporters. Arthur Zwane and MaMkhize have not experienced the joy of sold out games yet, let’s hope this changes soon.
