In Saturday’s highly-anticipated Soweto derby, Yusuf Maart not only finished off what is sure to be a goal-of-the-season contender, but his incredible effort from within his own half served as the match-winner for Chiefs.

A full house of fans created an incredible atmosphere for the resumption of a rivalry that stretches back more than five decades, as Amakhosi further asserted authority over their rivals.

The end result saw Chiefs win four league games in a row against Pirates for the first time since completing back-to-back league doubles over Pirates in 1991 and 1992.

Of course, the main talking point was the stunning goal that broke the deadlock in the match, with Maart spotting Pirates keeper Siyabonga Mpontshane off his line in the 74th minute.

However, an interesting analysis video has now emerged from the “On The Whistle Podcast”, with resident football expert and former PSL winner Courtney Freese illustrating why Maart’s “special goal for Kaizer Chiefs shouldn’t have counted”.

In the video, a foul in the build-up to the wonder strike from Maart is clearly pointed out.

Interestingly, Maart has revealed it was Khama Billiat who gave him the heads up to keep an eye on the positioning of Mpontshane.

“The first opportunity I passed Khama the ball and Khama told me ‘check the goalkeeper, he’s from his line’,” he told SuperSport TV after the match, as quoted by iDiski Times. “The second time, Khama intercepted the ball and I already looked up and I just hit it direct.

“I think, to be honest with you, a derby game is always a memory and is always something good. I think it will stay in the history books of the derby games and eventually they will show other people in the future what the derby means,” he added.
