Royal AM have announced the appointment of Khabo Zondo as head coach and four new signings – including Kaizer Chiefs‘ former Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic.

Zondo has been a forgotten man in South African football, having last been in charge of a professional club as far back as 2015.

The 60-year-old’s previous stints as a coach include the national Under-20 side, Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows.

He also enjoyed time as an assistant at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Zondo replaces John Maduka, who guided Royal AM to a third-place finish in the league last season, but somewhat surprisingly left the club to join KwaZulu-Natal rivals Maritzburg United.

Meanwhile, Nurkovic was one of four new players unveiled by Royal AM, along with Andre de Jong, Khetukuthula Ndlovu and Ruzaign Gamildien.

Nurkovic joins after being a casualty of the recent mass clear-out at Naturena – as extensively reported by The South African website – after three years at the Soweto giants.

New Zealand international De Jong was snapped up from AmaZulu, while Ndlovu and Gamilden join from Swallows.

Royal AM will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season

The Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize-owner Royal AM have bulked up their squad as they will compete in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup – along with Marumo Gallants.

They will also no doubt have ambitions of breaking into the top two in the league standings.
