SEEKING REDEMPTION: Pirates ‘must forget’ about Sundowns loss

Ben Motshwari says Orlando Pirates must redeem themselves when they play Marumo Gallants in the DStv Premiership on Monday.

The Buccaneers were thrashed 4-1 by runaway log-leaders Sundowns on Friday night, leaving Pirates in fifth spot on the table with 24 points after 17 matches.

Motshwari told The Citizen that Pirates had to look on the brighter side despite the disappointing result.

“I think we played well in the first half, even though they were coming on a lot on the sides, but we managed them.

“We conceded silly goals in the second half, especially on set-pieces. I mean leaving a man on the far pole, it was really a stupid mistake to do in the second half. We only have ourselves to blame, especially in the second half.

“For us now we have to forget about that game. We can only take the positives from the first half going into our next game on Monday.

“We have to redeem ourselves, we just have to forget about the Sundowns game and move on to the next match.”

Kick-off at the Orlando Stadium is scheduled for 17:30.

The Buccaneers went into their most recent clash with Masandawana on the back of a six-match unbeaten streak, aiming to become the first team to inflict a defeat on the Tshwane giants this season.

However, things did not go according to plan for Orlando Pirates as Mamelodi Sundowns ran out 4-1 victors, keeping their unbeaten record intact in the process.

Marumo Gallants, meanwhile, head into Monday’s encounter in a similar position, having seen their five-match unbeaten run ended in a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu in midweek.

Marumo Gallants are in 11th place in the standings with 18 points after 16 matches, while Orlando Pirates are fifth with 24 points after 17 matches, but would jump as high as second place with a victory.
