This week Amakhosi announced the departures of a staggering TEN players as well goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter ahead of the new season.

Samir Nurkovic, Daniel Cardoso, Lazarous Kambole, Kearyn Baccus, Leonardo Castro, Lebogang Manyama, Daniel Akpeyi, Dumisani Zuma and Bernard Parker have all been released, while Anthony Akumu has been transfer-listed by the Soweto giants.

According to the Soccer Laduma website, the Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize-owner Royal AM have identified Nigerian goalkeeper Akpeyi as a transfer target .

No formal approach has as yet been made to the player’s camp.

The KwaZulu-Natal side currently have Hugo Nyame, Marlon Heugh, Mondli Mpoto and Sipho Chaine as their goalkeeping options.

However, having finished third in the recent DStv Premiership season, Royal AM secured a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup where experience will be invaluable to their young squad.

Akpeyi, who will turn 36 in early August, played 69 matches in all competitions for Kaizer Chiefs.

He will be a free agent on June 30.
