This, after former fitness and conditioning coach Ridoh Behardien and ex-assistant goalkeepers’ coach Marcus Mashilo were given the boot, according to FARPost.

“The choice of word is very important; expelled is a very strong word. I would refrain from using that word.

“I would say that it’s only normal in any football club that when a head coach is appointed, there are technical team changes,” Mokwena said ahead of the Brazilians’ return to action with a heavyweight clash against Orlando Pirates on Friday, 30 December.

Kick-off is at 15:30.

“It is only normal, and for sure, the club will make the necessary announcement. But to use the word expelled is a bit extreme, but normal, especially when it’s Rhulani.

“We tend to be a bit extreme. I understand. But it’s normal, and there will be more changes because the club has given me an opportunity which I am extremely grateful for.

“They’ve given me the support that I am extremely grateful for, and mine is to reward them and repay that.

“Part of that is that I need a very strong team around me because I cannot do it alone, and that means for sure, in the interim, it’s to move in a direction that the club wants to move in.

“The club will always outlive me. In due course, the club will make announcements as to what changes have been made to the technical team,” Rhulani Mokwena added.

Mamelodi Sundowns are five points clear at the top of the DStv Premiership standings – and have a game in hand over second-placed Richards Bay.
