The 26-year-old Saavedra was injured during the first half of the Brazilians’ CAF Champions League clash against Al Merrikh on 19 February.

He then picked up a second injury just before he was about to return to action.

According to the Soccer Laduma website, Rhulani Mokwena confirmed Saavedra is not currently available for selection, but optimistically added that he won’t me missing from action for much longer.

“Erwin Saavedra is making good progress. We are also happy with that. We had anticipated a shorter layoff from the injury.

“The layoff has been a little bit longer than what we anticipated, which is a little bit of a disappointment. But we are working around the clock to try to facilitate his return.

“Sometimes we rush players, only to create bigger problems later on. So, Saavedra is still under the watchful eye of the biokineticists and the strengthening department. He is working with the physiotherapists, but he should be back very soon. It’s difficult to say (how long).

“Saavedra healed from the initial injury that he encountered in Egypt. On his return to training, he then picked up another injury.

“We had to take it carefully and monitor the situation. But our medical department is on top of it, which is good. It’s a completely different injury, but it could also be just some form of discomfort. We will wait for the MRI,” Rhulani Mokwena confirmed.
