Kaizer Chiefs have finally got their man in Nasreddine Nabi but they had to do some fighting to get there.

Nabi is expected to officially be announced and appointed as Chiefs coach next month, ending a long saga.

It all started this time last season, when Chiefs and Nabi were expected to close out a deal. Those talks then fell through at the last minute, leaving the deal dead in the water. Both parties then duly moved on. The Tunisian then moved on to AS FAR where has enjoyed considerable success. It was then a huge surprise to see him being pursued and willing to join Amakhosi.

Nabi rejected three clubs for Chiefs

Now according to Soccer-Laduma, Nabi really wanted the Chiefs job, this to the extent he rejected three Middle Eastern jobs.

“Al Arabi Sports Club from Saudi Arabia were one team Mokoena who talks were seriously interested. There were two teams from the UAE as well that wanted Nabi but he chose Kaizer Chiefs.” Said a source explaining the situation.

This was also confirmed but Nabi himself, saying he more offers than just South Africa (Chiefs).

“The South African offer was not the only one, but rather I received several offers. But I will have a meeting with the team (Rabat) president (Mohamed Haramou) to talk about this issue,” Nabi said while speaking to the Moroccan media two weeks ago.

Technical staff members already at the club

While Chiefs wait for Nabi to officially join, a new era has already started at the club. This is through them honouring his wishes of enlisting members of his own technical staff. Already over the weekend the likes of his assistant coach Fernando Da Cruz and goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi. The duo are the ones who have been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the first days of preseason.

Nabi is then expected to hit the ground running as soon as he arrives at Chiefs.
