Chiefs got rid of players in defence like Ramahlwe Mphahlele in effort to drop their squad age average. It is also no secret that they’re targeting Luke Fleurs

Fluers a big Chiefs target

The SuperSport United centre back has been the subject of intense speculation from Chiefs, as they seemingly continue to bolster their centre back ranks. Earlier in the season the club’s management backed coach Arthur Zwane by roping in two new centre backs in former player and academy product Zitha Kwinika on a reported big money deal from Stellenbosch FC, as well as former Cape Town City star Edmilson Dove on s free transfer.

Despite also having the likes of Njabulo Ngcobo, Siyabonga Ngezana, Eric Mathoho and Austin Dube in their ranks, Chiefs do not look to be satisfied entirely with their options in that department of the field. The confirmed approached for Fleurs coupled with the arrival of South African junior international centre back Bradley Cross to the club on trial, has been a massive indication of exactly that.

Amakhosi thinking ahead?

The fact that three of those above mentioned centre backs in Dube, Ngcobo and Mathoho have been mooted for exits from the club, would then give a hint at how serious they are at recruiting either one of Fleurs or Cross even both of the young duo and possibly investing in them as a future centre back pairing.

SuperSport set to block January move

Even though Chiefs were thought to be aiming for a January transfer for Fluers, that now seems unlikely to happen, according to Soccer-Laduma. According the publication, SuperSport are not expected to sanction any move for their talented young centre back, unless they can find a replacement for his services during the same window.
