Kaizer Chiefs have identified the weak areas in their squad. To that end, they’re targeting a new striker, left-back and goalkeeper.

Kaizer Chiefs looking to plug the gaps

iDiski Times reported Lorenz Kohler has revealed exactly where Chiefs will be looking to do their business in the winter window.

“Sources have previously indicated a striker, left-back and goalkeeper remain among the priority targets for the club in the upcoming weeks, while several players who are out of contract, will have final decisions on extensions or being released in the coming days,” iDiski Times reported.

Implications for Khune and Hlanti

With Jasond Gonzalez already released, it’s no surprise the goal-shy Chiefs will target a prolific forward. The Glamour Boys only found the back of the net 25 times in 30 league encounters last term. Meanwhile, veteran duo Sifiso Hlanti and Itumeleng Khune will need to be replaced if they both move onto pastures new. Fawaaz Basadien has been a long-standing target from Stellenbosch while Salim Magoola and Stanley Nwabali are potential candidates to fill Khune’s gloves. Naturena is slowly getting players back for pre-season but there are nine notable absentees. Meanwhile, the club are targeting a host of marquee attackers to try and get them firing again. Some of those names include Iqraam Rayners and Elias Mokwana.

Khune twist?

FARPost has reported that Itumeleng Khune is back in training at Naturena despite being out of contract next week. In contrast, Siyethemba Sithebe, Keagan Dolly and Njabulo Ngcobo also have contracts expiring at the end of June with Ngcobo expected to sign for Sekhukhune imminently. Dolly and Sithebe weren’t in training, but Khune was there. Does that provide some sort of hint as to his immediate future and a U-Turn on his situation?

“About 28 Kaizer Chiefs players attended the session, and notable absentees included Siyethemba Sithebe, Njabulo Ngcobo, Keagan Dolly, and Sifiso Hlanti, whose contracts are set to expire at the end of June. Their absence adds a layer of uncertainty to the squad’s composition for the upcoming season. Ngcobo has already signed with Sekhukhune United. On the brighter side, legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was present, signalling his continued commitment to the club. He is also out of contract next week,” as per the FarPost report.
