Another highly-regarded player has been strongly linked with a move to DStv Premiership champs Mamelodi Sundowns.

So far, Sundowns have only made two big signings, with Sipho Mbule recruited recently, while it can’t be forgotten that it was during the January transfer window that the Brazilians secured the services of Abubeker Nassir from Ethiopian Coffee after undergoing a successful trial.

However, the 22-year-old was loaned back to his club immediately after putting pen to paper as Sundowns had already exhausted their foreign quota.

It’s recently been reported by Soccer Ethiopia that he is heading to South Africa to start his time with Sundowns, and may well have played his last game for Ethiopian Coffee.

According to SABC Sport, Sundowns are now in advanced talks to sign Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil. He has most recently been plying his trade with Raja Casablanca, on loan from his parent club SCC Mohammedia, and it’s reported that Sundowns would presumably still have to pay a transfer fee as he still has a year left on his initial contract there.

This report was also backed up by another article by iDiski Times, which stated that the parties had reached an agreement for the transfer of the player “ahead of opening talks for personal terms”.

Sipho Mbule is already making a big impression at Sundowns

Mbule has literally hit the ground running at Sundowns after joining the Brazilians from SuperSport United.

The saga surrounding midfielder Mbule at SuperSport recently took a new twist after he was suspended indefinitely by the club, but it has since been revealed that he was placed in a ‘special programme’ aimed at physical and mental wellbeing. Soon after, it was then sensationally confirmed that he will be heading to Sundowns, where it’s hoped that he will make a fresh start.

A newfound motivated attitude has been described in detail by Mamelodi Sundowns Chairman Tlopie Motsepe.

“I can say right now Sipho Mbule is here right now [at Chloorkop] training while the rest of the team have taken a well-deserved break, so I think his mentality is already saying he wants to make a good impression on his teammates and coaches, his mind is already in that direction,” Motsepe said at Chloorkop on Thursday, as quoted by iDiski Times.

“But it’s not the Chairman’s job to get a player to think in a certain way or to take the club seriously, it starts from within, it starts with the player. We also have an incredible group of senior players like Denis Onyango, Kennedy Mweene, you know – who’ve seen players come in and held onto this culture.

“I think a great example of a player who has now adopted this incredible culture and is a shining light is Andile Jali, look how he’s performed this season and prior to his arrival, there were a few statements and considerations made about where he would end up and how he would survive.

“So we’re very excited about where the club is going and our coaches are the custodians of the culture of this football club and they’ve done a great job so far.”
