It’s been another league season to forget to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, particularly in front of goal.

In their 29 matches played to date, Kaizer Chiefs have only managed to score 25 goals – at an average of fewer than a goal per match.

Only five other teams have scored fewer goals this campaign than the Glamour Boys.

Kaizer Chiefs failed to score against 3 teams this season

Kaizer Chiefs’ leading goal scorers only have FOUR goals apiece this campaign. They are Christian Saile, Pule Mmodi, Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley du Preez.

By contrast, the leading scorer this season, Tshegofatso Mabasa, has 15 goals and five players are in double figures.

According to the Opta Jabu X page, Kaizer Chiefs have failed to score in 13 matches this season – the most times they have failed to score in a single season in the PSL era.

Amakhosi failed to score against Chippa United (twice), TS Galaxy, Royal AM (twice), SuperSport United, Cape Town City (twice), Orlando Pirates, Swallows, Stellenbosch FC, Richards Bay and Polokwane City.

Somewhat surprising, considering they scored in both matches against champions Mamelodi Sundowns, that Kaizer Chiefs failed to do so in either clash against seventh-placed Cape Town City, 12th-ranked Chippa United or 14th-placed Royal AM.

The Glamour Boys are currently in eighth place in the standings with one match remaining.

Should they hold onto that eighth spot, Amakhosi will qualify for next season’s MTN8 tournament where they will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the first round.

Kaizer Chiefs will wrap up their season in the Mother City against Cape Town Spurs on Saturday, 25 May at 15:00.
