The transfer saga between Kaizer Chiefs and Sipho Mbule continues, after the club were confirmed to have tabled an offer for the player.
Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly going head to head for Mbule’s signature in a battle stretching two transfer Windows now.
The previous transfer window was dominated by transfer speculation linking Mbule with a big money move away from Supersport United. The lead in terms of securing his signature kept exchanging hands between Chiefs and Sundowns, with almost every new report. Supersport had also made very little secret of their wish to sell the player abroad, instead of any of their two local rivals.
In the end, all of those reports proved to be futile as Mbule stayed put at Supersport, as he said he would in one of his Instagram stories during that time. Now even though both Matsatsantsa CEO Stan Matthews as well as Mbule’s representatives have always maintained their preference to sell the player overseas, that has not stopped the player from picking which local club he would prefer to play for between Chiefs and Sundowns should he remain in the DStv Premiership next season.
It was revealed late last week that if it were up to Mbule, he would prefer to sign for Chiefs over Sundowns. He is aware, however, that football is a business and that any deal would have to involve his club, Supersport being happy with the offer being placed by another club. That is what, is seemingly giving Sundowns the advantage over Chiefs at the moment, as the Brazilians are not known to have any problems forking out the big bucks to secure their targets.
According to a The Citizen source, there is one leading reason why Mbule would prefer a move to Chiefs.
“He (Mbule) stands a better chance of playing regular football at Chiefs, because unlike at Sundowns, there are not that many players who are competing for his position at Chiefs. But everything depends on SuperSport, Football is a business these days though, so if Sundowns put a better offer than Chiefs, he will have to go to Sundowns. He is a professional player, he knows that sometimes, a player does not always get his wish to play for a club of his choice. But having said that he would be delighted if SuperSport were to accept Chiefs’ offer,” Said the source.
Chiefs have received more than enough encouragement from all of Supersport and Mbule to make this signing possible, so will they at least meet the Tshwane-based club half way?
