AmaZulu FC defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has reflected on departing Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the previous season.

Just like many departures from Naturena in the last campaign, Kaizer Chiefs opted against extending Mphahlele’s contract when it expired in June.

It was heartbreak for ‘Rama’ to leave Amakhosi as he decided to take a little break from football before training alone.

“When the situation happened at Chiefs, I said to myself let me take a break from this thing because there is lot of noise,” Mphahele told journalists at the AmaZulu Media Open Day on Monday.

“So I just pulled out of the crowd and went on my own space and when I was okay I was like now I can start training.

Mphahlele also revealed that initially Amakhosi wanted to keep him before they reversed their decision. He then fell into the list of the unfortunate names that were picked for exits.

‘WE HAVE TO ACCEPT THE DECISION’ – MPHAHLELE

“We had talks, the plan was for me to stay at the club for a little bit longer,” he added.

“But there is this revival that they told me they are trying to refresh the team, they are trying to bring in new players, youngsters.

“And again honestly speaking, if you wanna win in football you can’t keep on going the same way. I have been there [at Kaizer Chiefs] for six years and there was no trophy.

“They had to make a decision about not only me, [Daniel] Cardoso, Leo [Leonardo Castro], Kearyn [Baccus], Bernard [Parker]. All these players they had to make a decision, they found themselves where they had to make a decision and we have to accept the decision.

Mphahlele went on to add that Kaizer Chiefs fans will have to be patient because the rebuilding that’s happening at the club won’t bring about positive results overnight.

“Look in football, building takes time, even in construction building takes time and change at Chiefs is not gonna come as fast as they want it,” he continued.

“It’s gonna take a little bit of time and unfortunately I know the Chiefs fans, the don’t have that munch patience but they must just be patient.

“This is not lottery my friend where you just pick the numbers and you win, you have to prepare the team and you have to get the philosophy going so it’s gonna take time, I don’t wanna lie.”
