However, some believe that Jali might be too old to meet Kaizer Chiefs criteria for new signings.

Mamelodi Sundowns have not offered the veteran midfielder a new deal sparking rumours that he could he headed elsewhere.

Jali is understood to be open to a move to Naturena, however, the Citizen reports that he will demand that he keeps his favoured No 15 jersey.

The reason that may be a sticking point is that Kaizer Chiefs have retired the number which was famously worn by club legend Doctor Khumalo.

Meanwhile Jali has won the No 15 jersey for many years since taking the number at Orlando Pirates before his move to Chloorkop.

Kaizer Chiefs will have to really want Jali

Jali has also frequently worn the number during national team appearances.

“For some it might seem as just a squad number, but these kinds of things have sentimental value for players. If Chiefs are serious about Jali, they will have to bend over backwards for him and give him the No 15 jersey, otherwise they can forget about having him in their team,” a source told the Citizen.

Kaizer Chiefs find themselves under pressure after a squad overhaul failed to deliver results this term.

Meanwhile, head coach Arthur Zwane continues to preach patience.

Chiefs will take on Orlando Pirates this weekend.
