Cape Town City announced the signing of Orlando Pirates utility player Abbubaker Mobara on Wednesday morning.

The 25-year-old had struggled for game time at the Buccaneers, especially in the latter half of the previous season, with his with the club on its last few days.

He penned a four-year deal with the Citizens, amid reported interest from other clubs, including league champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

In a video posted by his new club, Mobara was thrilled at the prospect of being back at his home city, having began his professional career at Ajax Cape Town.

To come back here and play in the Mother City is a warm feeling, a wonderful feeling, I see home, and that’s the feeling where the heart is. The heart wants to be home,” Mobara said.

“It’s a family team, it’s one and that’s the feeling I want to gain back. The feeling of happiness is important.”

The former SA youth international said the move to Cape Town City presented an opportunity for him to prove himself, after making just 39 league appearances across three seasons during his time with the Soweto giants.

“I really want to prove myself and not to the rest of the world, but to myself that I am worthy of being in a beasutiful team like this. I see the team is doing well for itself and I see how happy the players.”
