PSL rivals set to challenge Kaizer Chiefs for main midfield target! 

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be trying to sign Stellenbosch FC midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa but are now set to face competition.

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be trying to sign Stellenbosch FC midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa but are now set to face competition.

SuperSport United were another team that was thought to be keen on Mthethwa’s signature, but confirmed they thought he would rather join Chiefs or another big three side.

There have also been tentative links to Mamelodi Sundowns for Mthethwa, but according to some recent reports, the Brazilians seem to be looking elsewhere for midfield targets. Then when SuperSport conceded defeat before even starting their chase, that seemed to see Chiefs having a free rein to the 28-year-old.

That, is now thought to be about to change drastically according to the latest reports, as a new challenger for Mthethwa’s signature has since emerged. Soccer-Laduma suggests that Cape Town City have entered the race and are confident that they can go toe to toe with Chiefs in an effort to keep him in the Western Cape.  In fact it is reported that it is not only Mthethwa that City are interested in, but has teammate Fawaaz Basedien

City set to challenge Chiefs for Mthethwa

“What I can tell you is that City are interested in both players. I think they are aware that there are other teams who are also interested in Mthethwa, but they feel that they stand a chance to keep the player in the Mother City, It’s football and such things happen. And as for Fawaaz, they know him better because it is their former youth player and bringing him back will be the player making a full circle. But there are no talks yet, but interest from City, so we don’t know what will happen yet,” said a source to the same publication.

City already got one over Chiefs on the last day of the season, and will now be hoping to strike another blow to the Amakhosi’s future plans by beating them to the signing of Mthethwa.
