The result ensures that the Team of Choice moved four points clear of 15th (the dreaded relegation playoff spot) with two matches left in the season.

Cape Town City 0-0 Maritzburg United: Match report

While Maritzburg United created little in the final third, Cape Town City wasted a handful of chances to cement themselves in the top eight.

Fagrie Lakay went close with a headed effort inside the first ten minutes.

Maritzburg United didn’t register a shot on target in the match but Fares Hachi had a good earl opportunity but scuffed his shot.

Cape Town City were far more wasteful in front of goal though, failing to make the most of a poor backheader in the 15th minute. Nodada and Terrence Mashego conspired to fire off target in the opening stanza.

Neither side managed to build up any rhythm with the game dogged by niggly fouls.

Hachi was shown a second yellow for a late tackle on Craig Martin in the 68th minute but Cape Town City still couldn’t break down the Team of Choice.
