Orlando Pirates look to be holding their end of the title challenge of late, and will look to continue doing so as they take on Free State Stars at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers are three points clear at the top of the table following a 2-0 win over Black Leopards on Wednesday, and will be aiming to double the lead on their closest competitors Mamelodi Sundowns, who will have three games in hand before returning to league action the following week.

After delivering a dominant performance – albeit with numerous missed chances – against Lidoda Duvha, Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic believes his charges could have registered a bigger winning margin, and hopes they can carry their form into their clash against the struggling Ea Lla Koto.

“It could have been a much bigger scoreline. But we are looking at this result as an injection of motivation before a big game against Free State Stars on Saturday.

Sredojevic added that he was pleased with the turnout at Orlando Stadium, and hoped to see fans come out in their numbers again on Saturday.

The Soweto giants are up against a club reeling from tragedy, following the untimely passing of midfielder Sinethemba Jantjie, who lost his life in a car accident in early April.

They now have the unenviable task of picking themselves up and focusing on their fight against relegation, as they sit in second last place on the log.

Following the postponement of their fixture against Highlands Park, which was meant to take place last weekend, Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena told SowetanLive that normal service has resumed in the camp.

“We’ve got no issues and we are preparing as normal. We went to the funeral and we’ve tried to seek closure as much as we can.”
