Some veterans were on show prior to the suspension of Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixtures in March, with the oldest player to make an appearance in the league this season just mere months away from his 40th birthday.

Here, we take a look at the oldest players used in the PSL during the 2019/20 season.

Who is the oldest player to feature in the PSL in during the 2019/20 season?

The average age of players used during the campaign is 27.4, and the most senior of the men who had a run out in a league game is a staggering 12 years above that mark.

That man is none other than journeyman Moeneeb Joseph, who has so far featured in all but one seasons since the PSL’s launch in 1996, making his debut for Cape Town Spurs in 1997 aged just 17.

Having donned the colours of Ajax Cape Town, Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates, he turned out for AmaZulu in their season opener, an appearance which made him the oldest player used in the league for the campaign.

Usuthu went on to lose the game against Josephs’ former club Wits emphatically, but the accolade of the oldest player to feature this season still remains with the 39-year-old, who has since occupied the bench for the rest of the campaign.

Other elder statesmen in the league include Polokwane City captain Jabu Maluleke, who has notched up 20 league appearances for his club at age 37, while 36-year-old Orlando Pirates shot-stopper Wayne Sandilands is another vastly experienced player to enjoy regular game time.
