The PSL’s most valuable XI

Mamelodi Sundowns lured Bafana Bafana skipper Ronwen Williams to Chloorkop earlier this season.

The Bafana stopper is some way ahead of the next most valuable stopper in the league.

Left back – Lyle Lakay (Cape Town City) – R16 million

The former Mamelodi Sundowns fullback may have moved back to Cape Town City but he remains the most valuable left-sided fullback in the world.

Lakay has started well at Cape Town City and might yet enjoy a productive late career.

Centre back – Taariq Fielies (Cape Town City) – R16 million

Another Cape Town City entrant into the XI, Fielies is one of the most consistent players in the PSL.

Fielies has been a big part of the club’s recent successes.

Centre back – Thulani Hlatshwayo (SuperSport United) – R16 million

SuperSport United recently announced the arrival of former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo on a one-year deal. Photo: SuperSport United

Thulani Hlatshwayo may have been let go for free from Orlando Pirates but the experts still place a big price tag on the former national captain.

Hlatshwayo has reunited with Gavin Hunt, with whom he worked at Bidvest Wits when he enjoyed his best form.

The brightest backline star in South Africa right now has to be Sundowns Thapelo Morena.

Morena is at the peak of his game and offers so much going forward as well as his defensive qualities.

Allende has produced moments of magic for Sundowns but some will ask what he has done to earn a big price tag.

Allende can play centrally or on the wing.

Central midfield – Teboho Mokoena (Mamelodi Sundowns) – R25 million

The former SuperSport United playmaker has made a smooth transition to the top dogs in South African football.

Deadly from setpieces and adept at creating opportunities, it is surprising that Mokoena isn’t playing in Europe yet.

Central midfield – Mduduzi Mdantsane (Cape Town City) – R18 million

Another player key to Cape Town City finishing second last season was Mduduzi Mdantsane and his stock has risen as a result.

Mdantsane has experience and still keeps up with play better than most.

Right midfield – Fortune Makaringe (Orlando Pirates) – R17 million

Fortune Makaringe is a player who has suffered due to his versatility but he plays well out wide and in an advanced position.

Makaringe’s habit of scoring important goals helps boost his value.

Edmilson Dove has replaced Eric Mathoho

Forward – Peter Shalulile (Mamelodi Sundowns) – R35 million

Peter Shalulile has shaken off the suggestion that he is over-rated to become the PSL’s clear MVP.

Shalulile gets the results which ultimately sees him lead this line.

Forward – Keagan Dolly (Kaizer Chiefs) – R23 million
