Kaizer Chiefs resume their challenge for the PSL title on Tuesday evening, when they face Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium.

The Glamour Boys’ horror campaign from their last attempt is all but a distant memory, as they started the current season on a flyer, racing to five wins in seven matches to top the league standings early on.

They now come up against Abafana Bes’thende, who could be their third consecutive scalp.

Chiefs bounced back from their only defeat of the season, where they lost at home to Polokwane City, by beating AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium.

They followed that up with a 1-0 win over Baroka back at FNB Stadium.

The man of the match from their last outing, Daniel Akpeyi is determined to see the club maintain their spot at the top of the standings.

“We want to play beautiful football but at the same time we need the three points to stay on top of the league. As we all know, before I even joined the team, there’s been a long draught of trophies for the team. It’s a good start for us and we don’t want to drop it we just want to keep the momentum going,” he told the media ahead of Tuesday night’s encounter.

Their opponents are coached by someone who will have vast inside knowledge, having spent three seasons at Naturena.

Steve Komphela is in his second job since his unceremoniously exit from Kaizer Chiefs, and has already gotten the better of his previous employers.

The Bafana legend has, however, noted a different dynamic in the Soweto giants, since the return of Ernst Middendorp to the helm.

“We follow them. Ernst plays different formations just like us, he’s got a lot of variations. Even in a match he can change to 4-3-3, a diamond midfield, play a back-three, he can switch one player from this side to the other side,” Komphela explained.

The match kicks off at 19:30 (SAST).
