Kaizer Chiefs are nine points clear at the top of the league standings after seeing off Cape Town City at FNB Stadium on Sunday.

The convincing 3-0 victory saw the Glamour Boys secure a league double over the Mother City outfit, who have struggled in their fourth season in the top flight.

The hosts were on the scorecard early through Leonardo Castro, who grabbed his third goal of the week, heading in from close range to hand Chiefs the lead.

City grew into the game midway through the first half, but failed in the way of decisive shots, with Surprise Ralani and Kermit Erasmus getting close to finding the equaliser. This sent the two teams into the tunnel with Amakhosi enjoying a slim lead.

However, that one-goal advantage soon became two, as Samir Nurkovic latched onto a Dumisani Zuma cross with a header to double the lead.

The goal was the Serb’s ninth league goal of the season in only 14 appearances.

Two was quickly three, this time through defender Erick Mathoho – who has made a habit out of scoring in the ongoing campaign – heading in to notch up his fourth of the season and his second in as many matches.

City’s surges into the opposition half continued to bear no fruit, as they fired blanks in the closing stages of the game.

The victory is the second in three outings in 2020, placing them well-ahead of defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, who return to league action against Orlando Pirates midweek.
