South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Marumo Gallants have distanced themselves from reports suggesting they’ll be ‘relocating’.

Social media was sent into a frenzy after an unnamed man claimed that the Dan Malesela coached Gallants are preparing to relocate from Limpopo to the Free State.

He further went on to claim, the club will be given a ‘Celtic’ related name which is a name all too familiar with the local Free State soccer fans.

‘Bloemfontein Celtic’, arguably one of South Africa’s favourite soccer teams, have been missing from the top flight for the previous two seasons.

This came after the club’s PSL top flight status was sold to Royal AM.

Marumo Gallants have since emphatically denied the video with a statement of their own which you can read below.

Where did this rumour start?

According to local publication Citizen, the man in the video is allegedly a member of the Bloemfontein Celtic Supporters Forum.

“I want to read you something. It’s a pity that they sent it on WhatsApp. I don’t want you when you go out of here to say I said, that’s why I want to read you this.” the man said as quoted by the publication.

“It reads, ‘the national chairperson, Celtic supporters club, Bloemfontein, 30 November 2022. Dear sir, re: intention to relocate Marumo Gallants to Bloemfontein.

“The above matter has reference, we wish to hereby confirm our solid and firm intention to relocate our DStv Premiership team to your city and province as supported by the provincial government.

“In among others, the following manner: 1. Relocating the entire team to be permanently based in Bloemfontein.

“2. Once the legal and procedural procedures have been concluded, play the remainder of the 2022/23 season matches in Bloemfontein.

“3. Rebrand the team to a Celtic related name for the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

“4. And I think this is the most important, we invite the Celtic family and the people of the Free State/Bloemfontein to embrace this dream and walk the road with us.”
