Kaizer Chiefs defender, Daniel Cardoso says he would like to see the Khosi faithful following the example set by fans Mamelodi Sundowns, who have arguably the most vocal support in the country.

Despite being the most supported club in the country, the Glamour Boys have struggled to fill up seats in their home games, particularly at FNB Stadium.

It is on the odd home fixture outside Soweto where they have managed to draw decent crowds, as they have hosted teams in places such as Durban and Port Elizabeth.

Their next fixture is one such game, as they prepare to host Cape Town City in Nelspruit in the last Nedbank Cup quarterfinal on Sunday.

Cardoso, who’s fresh off Tunisia with Bafana Bafana, said he would love to play in front of a packed Mbombela Stadium.

“It’s always great to play in front of a capacity crowd, and it’s motivation for us because the fans always urge us to do well,” she told reporters on Thursday.

“You know, losing or drawing in front of a crowd like that, they start having doubts, and we don’t want to put doubt in our supporters’ heads anymore.

“We want them to come and enjoy games, and we want to enjoy it ourselves. If you see when Sundowns play, how they go and enjoy with their fans afterwards – it’s great to see.

“I think that’s also something we need to start doing – interacting with our fans more after games, which shows appreciation to the fans and once we do that, they’ll feel we’re also showing loyalty to them.”

Amakhosi have, in recent years, had incidents of their own fans turning against them, with the situation escalating to violent scenes on some occasions.

Cardoso revealed that he admired how the Sundowns supporters continue to embrace their club, regardless of how they perform.

“They join them instead of booing them and chasing them away,” he added.

“That’s what I wish our fans could do with us. If we do get a draw, it’s a result and a point. Instead, they turn around and wave us away with their hand signals.

“I ask them to rather show us the support. We’re only humans, not robots, and we’re not going to win every game. So, hopefully, the fans can turn around and help us out.”

The match on Sunday kicks off at 15:00.
