The ‘Big Three’ of the PSL hog the headlines, but the league’s best defender doesn’t play for Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates or Sundowns.

There are some excellent defenders on the books of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Sundowns. However, the finest centre-half in the division plays elsewhere, for now.

Botswana captain has signed a pre-contract with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs in January this year and will officially link up with the club on July 1st. Ditlhokwe is already established as as one of the premium centre-backs in the PSL. He joined Matsatsantsa from Botswanan giants Township Rollers in January 2020. At 24, he’s not even close to his peak yet.

Chiefs land coup to make a big statement

The signing of Ditlhokwe is a statement of intent from the Glamour Boys. To weaken SuperSport United and strengthen their own ranks is a power play by the Kaizer Chiefs board. Back to on-field matters, Chiefs face in-form Stellenbosch on Saturday in an enticing PSL clash. Stellies have won four of their last five in the league, while Amakhosi have won four on the spin across all competitions.

Chefs’ Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates kick off the weekend against out-of-form Richards Bay, while Sundowns have to wait until Tuesday for their next league encounter against Cape Town City. They may kick that game off as newly-crowned champions.
