Among those are Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are thought to have contacted Chiefs about Shabalala.

The trip was planned for earlier

This would not have been the first time Shabalala would have been expected to fly out to Spain. Initially the Chiefs youngster was earmarked by the by the Technical Study Group for a La Liga development experience, which would see him get the opportunity to observe the football life in Spain and train with a local team, after wining the COSAFA Cup U17 tournament player of the year. That was before COVID-19 struck and made sure that the trip was unfortunately called off.

Now just a couple of weeks ago, Chiefs DDC coach Vela Khumalo had confirmed that there was communication once again from Spain, and that plans were being made for Shabalala to have his promised experience in Spain.

Chiefs DDC coach explains the situation

“His trip [to Spain] was postponed due to Covid-19 but they have written to us requesting that he vaccinates, and he has done that, What’s left is for them to tell us when he should come. It’s a great opportunity because he will get the chance to be seen by different teams and he may not come back because of his talent. If he doesn’t succeed, he will come back and continue his development at Naturena because he’s an amazing talent that’s rare in Mzansi. Being named player of the tournament at the Cosafa Cup tournament meant a lot, and it wasn’t by a mistake. What’s good is that he’s playing for Kaizer Chiefs where there is pressure; that will help him settle.” Said Khumalo.
