Pirates suspends Lorch: The star was getting back to his best

Thembinkosi Lorch will miss three of Orlando Pirates’ fixtures after the club suspended the star from club activities on Wednesday.

Orlando Pirates announced the decision to suspend Thembinkosi Lorch from all club activities pending a disciplinary hearing.

This follows after the 30-year-old was sentenced to three years imprisonment for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

On September 7, 2020, Lorch was arresred following a complaint laid against him by his then-girlfriend.

On Wednesday, Pirates released a statement on their star player.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club has noted the conclusion of legal proceedings involving our player, Thembinkosi Lorch. Consistent with Orlando Pirates Rules and Pledge, articulated in the statement the club issued when the legal proceedings commenced, the Club is commencing its internal process,” said the club.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is at all times mindful of its obligation as a result of the employer-employee relationship it has with the players. The Club also handles the administration of justice in a manner that avoids double jeopardy – where the players would be punished twice for the same offence. 

The above are consistent with the club values without which the Club would not function judiciously.”

Pirates have removed Thembinkosi Lorch from all club activities until December 12.

The winger’s suspension comes a month after he made his first appearance of the season following a lenghty injury.

Lorch won back-to-back man-of-the-match awards upon his return and was just starting to find his feet again.
