Despite a 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch FC, Orlando Pirates managed to reach the MTN8 final and will play Mamelodi Sundowns.

Orlando Pirates managed to reach the MTN8 final despite their 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch FC on Sunday afternoon.

The Buccaneers scrapped through thanks to an away goal rule after the semi-final tie ended up 2-2 on aggregate.

Pirates will face the Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2023/24 MTN8 final, with the winner walking away with R8 million.

The Brazilains managed to reach the final after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 on aggregate.

The MTN8 final clash between Sundowns and the Sea Robbers will take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 7 October.

The winners of this year’ss tournament will get to lift a new MTN8 trophy for the first time ever.

Pirates and Downs have already played this season with Rulani Mokwena’s troops walking away 1-0 winners last week Wednesday at the Orlando Stadium.

Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was disappointed that his side lost the game even though they still managed to reach the final.

“We are in the final, that’s the most important thing, Orlando Pirates is in the MTN8 one more time. We gonna prepare ourselves as good as possible for 7 October to fight for the game one more time. Happy for the fact that we’re ther,” he said after the Stellies game.
