Pirates keeper ruled out until next year, Mpontshane to get game-time?

Orlando Pirates keeper Sipho Chaine faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines and could only return to action next year.

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine might be ruled out of action until next year following his knee injury, according to reports.

Chaine suffered a knee injury last month against Cape Town Spurs, a few weeks after he helped the Buccaneers to their first trophy of the season.

According to a report from the Citizen, the Pirates keeper is expected to be on the sidelines for the rest of the year.

“Sipho’s injury seems to be more serious than what everybody thought. We all thought it is a minor thing and he would be back after that Cape Town Spurs game,” Citizen reported.

“But now he will have to start over to get back into the team because his injury is going to take at least three months, and I only see him coming back next year. I feel sorry for him because he was a regular in the team and everyone trusted him,” the publication added.

Former TS Galaxy keeper Melusi Buthelezi has now operated in goals for Pirates and kept a clean sheet against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby win.

Pirates still have Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane eager for game-time.

Should Buthelezi fail to impress, or get suspended, Jose Riveiro might opt for Mpontshane or Ofori.
