In a statement last Thursday, Pirates confirmed the signing of highly-regarded Cameroonian striker Souaibou Marou, who Bucs fans will be hoping can make a massive difference during the second half of the season. That deal with the Buccaneers is confirmed until 2025.

In related news, a report by Phakaaathi recently suggested that out-of-favour striker Bienvenu Eva Nga could be loaned out as Pirates welcome Souaibou into the fray.

As Pirates perhaps reconsider their options up front, it’s also been interesting to note that the This Is Football publication reports that striker Terrence Dzvukamanja was in fact very close to completing a move to SuperSport United this month.

Dzvukamanja has seemed to be edging ever closer to the Buccaneers’ exit gate for some time, and it’s not something his agent has shied away from discussing.

“Look, Terrence is obviously not in the plans of Orlando Pirates,” his agent Mike Maakab recently told FARPost. “So we are looking for opportunities that will suit the player. And make sure he gets back to playing football. We looking to move Terrence away from Pirates in the next coming two weeks. Hopefully, that can materialise,” Makaab concluded.

Yet, the matter has been further complicated as Dzvukamanja recently came back into the selection mix for Pirates, and now it remains to be seen if he will in fact head to SuperSport as seemed to be the case this month.

“Well, there’s a possibility that Terrence [Dzvukamanja] might remain at Pirates,” Makaab in fact admitted this week. “Obviously, he has been in the match day squad for the team this year, and the team might keep him.”

For Eva Nga, he signed with Pirates ahead of this season, but faded into the background as someone like Ndumiso Mabena has moved ahead of him in the pecking order.

“It does not look like he (Eva Nga) has a place in the team and is likely to be shipped out,” said a Phakaaathi source. “I heard the team is looking at options for him and have made him available to teams who wish to have him. No takers have come out so far.”

Meanwhile, when it comes to Marou, it’s believed that his work permit and paperwork are already all in order, and with the youngster having already begun training with his new team, there is a good chance he will be available in the near future.

“Marou comes to South Africa on the back of a three-year stint with his former club, Coton Sport, winning two league titles in the process, including Player of the Season award in 2022,” Pirates stated last week.

“His form in the Cameroonian league didn’t go unnoticed as he was selected to the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad that competed in Qatar. The Cameroonian international, who concluded his deal with the club yesterday afternoon, will join his new teammates this morning.”
