Tau only joined Al Ahly from English Premiership side Brighton & Hove Albion at the beginning of this season, but is thought to be of interest in Europe again, to an unnamed overseas team.

Tau joined Al Ahly only this season

The signing of Tau seemed like a huge coup for Al Ahly as the tricky forward started the Egyptian season like a house on fire. The former Mamelodi Sundowns player scored a brace on his much anticipated debut for the Egyptian Red Devils, but would soon see his fortunes change. As the season progressed, the goals and assists seemed to dry up for the player and that seemed to coincide with his situation off the field too.

Tau would find himself suffering from a few injuries in the process, and soon the narrative from fans and pundits about his quality, seemed to change. It then seemed like the “Lion of Judah” had hit an all time low, when even Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos seemed to echo the concerns about his form and as well as continuous injuries. Although that looked to cast his national team future in doubt, he has since not only recovered from injury, but has also recovered his form.

His form has recovered

Tau has since found himself back as a regular on the goals and assists columns for Al Ahly and now sources speaking to The Citizen have confirmed that there is a club in Europe that is monitoring the situation with regards to the player and could open talks for regarding a potential transfer soon.

“They have been following him and they may have been put off when he chose to go back to Africa after things didn’t go well for him at Brighton & Hove Albion. But they can see that he has not let the standard down and their interest in him has been renewed. I am not sure if they have already spoken to Al Ahly about him but if not, I think it will be happening soon enough,” said the source.

Tau’s good form has seen him renamed in Bafana Bafana’s preliminary squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and it will undoubtedly encourage coach Hugo Broos. Will it also encourage the unnamed overseas team to make an offer for him? Only time will tell.
