Patrick Phungwayo latest: Court date set for disgraced ex-Orlando Pirates star

Ex-Orlando Pirates star Patrick Phungwayo will appear in court on Wednesday in the next step in his bail application after his shock arrest.

Former Orlando Pirates defender Patrick Phungwayo will appear in court on Wednesday in the next step in his ongoing bail application after his shock arrest last week.

Police confirmed that Patrick Phungwayo had been denied bail after being arrested for a series of crimes, including house robbery and possession of stolen property.

In addition, Phungwayo and his friend David Sekgobela were charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Patrick Phungwayo made his first court appearance on Monday

According to a family friend and Patrick Phungwayo’s one-time mentor Joe Seanego, the 33-year-old left-back made his first court appearance on Monday and will appear again on Wednesday.

“Today it was just a court appearance,” Senego reportedly told Kickoff.

“We will attend the bail application on Wednesday. The judge has granted us to do the bail application on Wednesday.

“He was only charged with possession of stolen cars in his yard. He was not present at the crime scene.

“He has been taken off the ID parade, he is not on the ID parade. It’s only the other suspects now.”

Patrick Phungwayo played 90 matches in all competitions for Bidvest Wits, 73 for Orlando Pirates and 51 for Free State Stars during his career.
