Retired TS Galaxy attacker Bernard Parker has revealed how Bongani Zungu unfollowed him on Instagram after breaking his leg.

TS Galaxy were in action against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup in October 2023 when Zungu injured Parker.

The injury caused a stir among football fans in the country, and it was initially thought to have ended Parker’s career.

However, Parker recovered within six months, and returned to action against the same opponents in the league earlier this year.

Now, Parker has revealed to Robert Marawa on Marawa Sports Worldwide that Zungu did indeed apologise to him via Instagram direct message (DM).

At the time, Parker said he was still in hospital, and he accepted Zungu’s apology using the same App but he later realised that the midfielder had unfollowed him.

And that’s because Parker had expected some kind of response from Zungu after he had accepted his apology.

Furthermore, Parker detailed how he unsuccessfully tried to reach out to Zungu after he got out of hospital until he gave up on the idea.

Nonetheless, Parker confirmed receiving a card and flowers from the Sundowns management while he was still hospitalised.

“No, I never had a personal relationship with Bongani Zungu throughout both our careers. We played once or twice for Bafana Bafana but it was just normal professionalism,” said Parker.

“And when this incident happened, he did apologise on Instagram DM. I did reply to say, ‘you are forgiven’, and he didn’t reply then after… nothing.

“Later on, I found that he unfollowed me, and later on, there was no follow up from him. I never even received a call from the Sundowns coach as well.

“But I did receive a card and flowers from the Sundowns management,” added Parker.

“I found it strange [that he unfollowed me after apologising]. I was at the hospital at the time. I found it strange, and when I got out of hospital, and I was at home busy doing my physio, Mr Petersen who used to visit me a lot whom is my life coach, I said to him, ‘I think we should reach out to him so that we can shake hands, if he fan touch me to give me the healing blessing’.

“We tried to reach out but it was unsuccessful. So, I just said to myself, ‘why should I make an effort and run after someone who doesn’t want to apologise or who doesn’t want to make peace,” concluded Parker.

Meawnhile, Parker who is a Kaizer Chiefs legend, has confirmed his retirement from football while also announcing his new role at TS Galaxy.

Parker, 38, will take up the role of head coach at TS Galaxy DStv Diski Challenge team where will be assisted by Vuyo Mere as reported on The South African.
