Out-of-favour Saleng impresses Pirates coach Riveiro

Saleng, who was Pirates’ best player last season, has struggled to replicate his form in the current campaign.

Orlando Pirates head coach was happy with Monnapule Saleng following the team’s 2-0 win over Moroka Swallows on Tuesday evening.

Saleng, who was the Buccaneers’ best player last season, has struggled to replicate his form in the current campaign.

The winger came off the bench to force a goal which all but sealed the three points for Pirates at the Orlando Stadium.

Speaking after the game, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro said he was happy with Saleng’s contributions.

“If a player from the bench is not coming with the right motivation and understanding that the last 10 minutes are important for the team and for him as well, he will need to be prepared in the next time (game),” said the Bucs coach.

“But I am happy with the contribution from the bench, happy for Saleng. He’s not having the best time of his career, but he came from the bench and contributed with good action that luckily ended in a goal. I think it was an own-goal, if I’m not mistaken.”

Pirates are in action this weekend against TS Galaxy and perhaps Riveiro might give Saleng a rare start.
