Legendary ‘keeper dumps Orlando Pirates for Maritzburg United?

A legendary Orlando Pirates goalkeeper has reportedly dumped them for a move to Maritzburg United where he has reunited with Fadlu Davids.

According to iDiski Times, retired goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands has joined Maritzburg United as their new goalkeeper coach.

In fact, the publication reports that Sandilands is already in Maritzburg as the team prepares for the resumption of the league season in late December.

SANDILANDS DUMPS PIRATES FOR MARITZBURG UNITED?

Sandilands had been working as a goalkeeper coach for the Pirates DStv Diski Challenge team (DDC) following his retirement from football in June.

The 39-year-old was, in fact, was ‘forced’ to retire after Pirates decided against renewing his contract, and offered him a non-playing positions.

Expectations were that he would become the senior team’s goalkeeper coach but the arrival of Jose Riveiro as the head coach changed that altogether.

Sandilands knows Davids well having worked with him at Pirates since January 2019 when he joined from Maritzburg United as Josef Zinnbauer’s assistant.

And they will now be reunited if the media reports are anything to go by, and it remains to be seen if Maritzburg United will improve under their leadership.
