Orlando Pirates have what should be an easy task – on paper – when they meet the bottom placed Platinum Stars at FNB stadium on Wednesday.

This fixture could be a potential banana peel for the Buccaneers as they look to get back to winning ways before the big Soweto derby on Saturday.

Form guide

Platinum Stars look for all money to be the strongest relegation candidates early on in the season as they are yet to register a win, scoring just two goals and only collecting two points in their seven games so far. A win in Soweto will not change their league position but will sure go some way towards giving them the confidence to turn their season around.

Pirates find themselves at fourth place, just three points behind log leaders Baroka FC thanks to a bright start to their league campaign. They have, however struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just five times in seven games with two of those goals coming in their previous fixture against Polokwane City where they drew 2-2.They recently suffered their first defeat against struggling Bidvest Wits in the game before that.

Head to head

It’s not only current form that is heavily stacked in Pirates favour, history favours the home side as well as they have defeated the visitors nine times in their last sixteen league encounters. Dikwena have only inflicted one defeat on the Soweto giants.

However in the last two seasons, it is the side from the North West which has had an ever so slight advantage, winning the only fixture that has produced a result. The other three games between the two sides have produced draws.
