Orlando Pirates-TS Galaxy ‘SLAP-GATE’ case: Merafe and Mkhize heading to court

Orlando Pirates media officer Thandi Merafe’s assault case is heading back to court next week.

The police have confirmed that TS Galaxy media officer Minenhle Mkhize opened a case of common assault against Merafe for an incident last month.

The charge is related to an off-field incident on 11 December 2021 when Merafe allegedly slapped Mkhize in the face during a DStv Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and TS Galaxy at the Orlando Stadium.

The Soweto giants won the match 2-0.

Merafe will head to court next Tuesday, 11 January, but according to a Soccer Laduma police source ,the Buccaneers’ official will most likely only get a warning and not be sentenced to jail time.

“A warning statement has been obtained from the suspect and the docket has been taken to court for a decision.

“The suspect is unlikely to get a sentence and could walk away with a warning, though a decision is expected to be taken on Tuesday,” confirmed a police official.
