Orlando Pirates will be in the CAF Champions League next season while their rivals Kaizer Chiefs won’t even be in the MTN8.

After a 2-0 defeat at already-relegated Cape Town Spurs, Amakhosi must contend themselves with a tenth-placed finish this season. That means they finish without the prospect of MTN8 football next season. In 30 games they only claimed nine wins with nine draws and 12 defeats. The twelfth of those came against Spurs. Polokwane City grabbed the final MTN8 spot with a tense 1-0 win over TS Galaxy.

Orlando Pirates secure CAF Champions League football despite a poor result

The Sea Robbers could only manage a 1-1 draw against SuperSport but that was enough to secure second place ahead of Stellies, who lost 2-1 at Richards Bay. Pirates and Stellenbosch finished level on 50 points but the Sea Robbers boast a superior goal difference.

Amakhosi reportedly have their sights set on several players to bolster the ranks at Naturena this winter. Elias Mokwana, Luther Singh and Tshpang Moremi have all had different journies and trajectories for the national team. Singh, the 26-year-old wide attacker born in Soweto, hasn’t represented his nation in just under three years. He’s played 13 times for South Africa, the last of those caps came in World Cup qualifying in late 2021 against Zimbabwe.

“We received offers from Egypt, Morocco, Scotland, Sweden, and Major League Soccer. One Soweto club also enquired. The reason we haven’t made the decision is that the offers are not favourable for the player (Singh), we still want to wait a bit. He still wants to play abroad, but if the right deal locally comes, he will take it. The aim is to get back to the national team.” said agent Warren Swartz via iDiski Times.
