Former Orlando Pirates captain Oupa Manyisa is reportedly set to call it a day in football. But isn’t it too early for him to consider retirement?

Known as ‘Ace’, Manyisa found his way into many football fans’ hearts during his time at the Buccaneers.

He left the Soweto giants for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017 where his career began to wind down and he found himself playing for Platinum City Rovers in the second tier since last season.

According to Kickoff, Manyisa’s presence is valued at the Limpompo-based club. Thus, they’ve reportedly decided to give him a non-playing role.

MANYISA TO TAKE NON-PLAYING ROLE AT ROVERS

“Now aged 34, Rovers have decided to retain him at the club due to his influence and discipline has been a model professional since arriving at the club,” Kickoff reported.

A source close to the website confirmed that next week Manyisa will be handed the position.

“There are no issues with Oupa’s abilities as a footballer, but the club wants to put him in a position that gives direction to his future,” source said.

“He has a profile befitting of becoming a club ambassador because of the way he carries himself around.

“He has obviously slowed down a bit considering the injuries that he had to deal with through his time at Sundowns and it will be better that he is moved aside slowly.

“A meeting will be held to address that issue next week but he will be handed that position.”
