BENEDICT VILAKAZI AT ORLANDO PIRATES

A whole host of highly-talented attacking midfielders came and left Orlando Pirates in the 2000s, while a select few became true legends.

One of those was the diminutive Vilakazi from Diepkloof, Soweto. If you never really got a decent chance to watch him, he is a lot like Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo.

Tso, known as the little Napoleon Bonaparte, spent six seasons with the Sea Robbers as a first-choice central midfielder/number 10 before moving to Aalborg BK in Denmark for three seasons.

THWALA: TSO DIDN’T TRAIN MUCH

Making a rare appearance in the media this winger, the former Pirates winger Patrick Thwala remembered how Vilakazi spent the midweek getting massages instead of training with his teammates.

“Tso would have a good game on Sunday or Saturday, Monday, Tuesday he wouldn’t train, he would say he is injured and they would massage him,” Thwala said.

“Tso would suddenly return on Thursday for a small-sided game or friendly, with the injury disappeared.

“He would be back for matchday on Saturday. He would be on fire to win us the game.

“Come Monday, he would be injured again to receive messages for days while the rest of the team trains.”
