A new coach through the door means a host of things. For struggling Orlando Pirates players, it’s a new opportunity to play.

Several Orlando Pirates players knew it was a big day when the Sea Robbers announced a new coach. Jose Riveiro will offer full opportunities for every player.

ORLANDO PIRATES ANNOUNCE NEW COACH

As The South African website reported on 25 June, the Soweto giants surprised us all by unveiling the Spaniard while we were expecting the likes of Benni McCarthy or Gavin Hunt.

The club added to confirm that Riveiro will be working with his own lieutenants in Sergio Almenara (assistant coach) and the fitness trainer Miguel Bellver Esteve.

SEVEN PLAYERS WITH A CHANCE TO IMPRESS

A brand new coach, especially one from as far as Europe, will seek information about his players but will also use his own eyes and mind to select talent on the training pitch.

This is therefore why several Orlando Pirates players will be run and kick harder as well as shout louder to force themselves in the team after missing game time under Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids last season.

  1. Wayde Jooste, 30, right back
  2. Thabiso Monyane, 22, defender/ forward
  3. Siphisihle Ndlovu,25, midfielder
  4. Collins Makgaka, 26, forward
  5. Ntsako Makhubela,28, forward
  6. Tebogo Tlolane, 27, winger
  7. Zakhele Lepasa, 25, forward.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers will be kicking off the new season against Swallows FC in what is known as the original Soweto derby on Saturday 6 August.
